This round water hyacinth basket is a large woven storage basket with a grey twisted paper border and a fixed handle, in two sizes or as a set of both. The small is 40 cm across and 34 cm high, 40 cm to the top of the handle, at 1.6 kg; the large is 45 cm across and 37 cm high, 42 cm with the handle, at 1.8 kg. Both take blankets, cushions, toys or laundry.

Water hyacinth is a fast-growing aquatic plant, dried and twisted into cord before weaving, which gives a thicker, softer rope-like texture than willow or rattan. Here it is woven onto a metal framework, so the basket holds a true round shape and an open mouth even when it is empty, rather than collapsing in on itself the way an unframed woven basket does. The grey twisted paper border finishes the rim.

Will it stay open when empty?

Yes. The weave is built onto a metal framework, so the basket keeps its round shape and open mouth whether it is full or empty. That is the difference between this and a soft woven basket that folds in on itself.

Which size should I choose?

There is only 5 cm between them across and 3 cm in height, so the choice is less about capacity than about the space. The large at 45 cm suits a living room corner for throws and cushions; the small at 40 cm fits beside a chair or in a bedroom. The set of two works as a pair.

Can I use it for laundry?
