This shallow rectangular water hyacinth storage basket is a low tray-depth basket, 9 to 12 cm tall, in three sizes or as a set of all three. The small measures 37 x 24 x 9 cm at 500 g, the medium 42 x 30 x 10 cm at 700 g, and the large 47 x 34 x 12 cm at 800 g. A grey twisted paper border runs around the rim, and handles are cut into the ends.

The border counts for more on this basket than on anything else in the range, because on something 9 cm tall the rim is most of what you see. You look down into a shallow basket rather than at it, and from that angle the grey trim frames the whole thing. The height is the practical half of the argument: contents sit where you can see them all at once instead of being dug out, and the basket slides into gaps under shelves that a standard storage basket will not clear. What is the border made of?

Paper cord, twisted and dyed grey, then worked around the top edge of the weave. Look after it exactly as you would the rest of the basket: keep it dry, and brush it rather than washing it.

How does this differ from your plain shallow hyacinth basket?

The grey rim, and nothing else. Both run 9 to 12 cm deep across the same three footprints. It is a choice between a natural edge and a grey one.

Is 9 cm deep enough to be useful?

It depends what you are storing. For folded t-shirts, underwear, cables, remotes, paperwork, craft supplies or toiletries it is plenty, and the shallowness is the reason nothing gets lost underneath. For bulky items, take our mid-depth hyacinth basket at 19 to 23 cm.

Which size fits a standard shelf?

The small at 24 cm front to back and the medium at 30 cm suit most shelving. The large at 34 cm needs a deeper unit. Heights are barely an issue at 9 to 12 cm, which is the point of the range.
