This shallow water hyacinth basket is a low rectangular storage basket with handles worked into the ends, in three sizes or as a set of all three. The small measures 37 x 24 cm and just 9 cm deep at 500 g; the large is 47 x 34 x 12 cm at 800 g. Shallow enough to slide under a shelf or into a drawer, and low enough that nothing gets buried.

Nine centimetres is the whole idea. Most storage baskets are deep enough that whatever went in first is never seen again, whereas at this depth everything lies in a single layer and you can see the lot at a glance. That makes them better for things you reach for daily, and for spaces with a shelf close above where a taller basket simply will not go. The hyacinth is woven onto a metal framework, so the low sides stay square rather than splaying.

Will it fit under a shelf?

That is what the depth is for. At 9 to 12 cm tall these clear gaps that a standard storage basket will not. Measure the clear height under the shelf and the depth front to back, which runs 24 to 34 cm across the three sizes.

What is it actually good for?

Anything you want laid out rather than piled: folded t-shirts or underwear in a wardrobe, cables and remotes on a media unit, paperwork, craft supplies, or toiletries on a bathroom shelf.

How does it compare to your other hyacinth baskets?

This is the shallow one. Our rectangular hyacinth basket is 19 to 23 cm deep for bulkier storage, and the square one 29 to 32 cm for blankets and laundry. Same material, three very different depths.

Does the set of three nest?

The sizes step up evenly, but we would not promise a full nest. They are designed to sit side by side along a shelf rather than inside one another.
