This chest hamper is a lidded split willow basket in two sizes, finished with faux brown leather and closing on a front clasp. The small is 27 x 22 x 18 cm at 500 g, the large 36 x 29.5 x 24 cm at 900 g. Both are made for shelf and cupboard storage, keepsakes and made-up gifts.

The rods are halved before they are woven. That gives a flatter, finer wall than a full-rod basket of the same size and keeps the small down to 500 g. The lid hinges at the back and holds on a clasp rather than a buckled strap, so it opens with one hand.

Which size can I order today?

The small. The large is listed because we sell it, but we are out of stock of it at the moment, so email us before ordering one and we will tell you when the next run lands.

What does the clasp do?

It holds the lid down, nothing more. There is no lock and no key, so treat it as a lid that stays shut when the basket is moved rather than a box that secures what is in it.

How is it different from your antique wash chest hamper?

That one is a similar size at 28 x 20 x 16 cm but lighter again at 200 g, with grey faux leather and a paler, cooler finish. This one is warmer in tone with brown leather and a heavier build.

Why split willow instead of full rods?

Splitting the rods gives a smooth, close face for the leather to sit against and a thinner wall, which is what keeps the weight down on a small box. Full rods make a thicker, more textured basket and are what we use on the larger storage hampers.
