This white wicker hamper is a lidded white wash willow basket with white faux leather straps and handles, in three sizes. The 14 inch measures 36 x 26 x 15 cm at 750 g, the 16 inch 41 x 30 x 19 cm at 1.1 kg, and the 18 inch 46 x 30.5 x 19 cm at 1.35 kg. The 16 and 18 inch can be taken unlined, or with a removable cotton lining in black, white, red, navy blue or grey sage.

Five lining colours against a white wash basket is an unusual amount of choice, and it is the reason this hamper ends up used for gift display as often as for storage. A black or a navy lining makes a visibly different object from the same basket with red in it, and on a wedding or christening table it is generally the lining that is meant to do the work rather than the willow. Metal chains hold the lid open rather than letting it drop back, which matters more than it sounds when a hamper is being filled, dressed and photographed. The 14 inch is made unlined only.

Can I have the 14 inch lined?

No, the 14 inch is unlined only. The lining options are on the 16 and 18 inch, so if the colour of the lining is part of the plan, start at 16 inch.

Which size should I choose?

For a made-up gift hamper, work from the contents outwards: 14 inch at 36 x 26 cm holds a modest selection, 16 inch at 41 x 30 cm a generous one, and 18 inch at 46 x 30.5 cm a full hamper with bottles. For storage rather than gifting, the 18 inch is the one that earns a shelf.

What do the metal chains do?

They stop the lid falling backwards past the hinge. On a hamper that gets opened, filled and displayed with the lid up, that is the difference between it staying where you put it and having to be held.

Does the lining come out?

Yes, it is cotton and removable on the sizes that have it, so it lifts out and washes and the basket can be used bare afterwards.
