This black wicker hamper basket is a lidded willow hamper in five sizes, from 12 to 20 inches, with black faux leather straps and a buckle closure. The 12 inch measures 30 x 23 x 11 cm at 500 g; the 20 inch is 51 x 35 x 25 cm at 1.7 kg. Available unlined or with a black, red or white cotton lining.

Black is unusual in wicker and it changes what the basket does. Where a natural hamper announces itself, a black one recedes, which is why these get used as much for storage in a smart room as for gifting. The larger sizes carry metal chains that hold the hinged lid open rather than letting it fall back, and the faux leather straps buckle shut for carrying or presenting.

Which size should I choose for a gift hamper?

The 14 inch at 36 x 26 cm suits a hamper for one or two people: a bottle, some treats and a little packing. The 18 and 20 inch are the ones for a full Christmas or corporate hamper. The 12 inch is small enough for a single bottle and a card, or for storage on a shelf.

Do the linings come out?

Yes. The cotton linings are removable, so they can be washed or taken out entirely if you would rather present the willow. Unlined is also an option on every size.

Does the lid stay open?

On the larger sizes, yes. Metal chains hold the hinged lid open rather than letting it drop back while you are packing.

Can it be reused after the gift?

That is most of the point of a wicker hamper. Lidded and black, it works as storage on open shelving, under a bed or in a hallway, which is more than can be said for a cardboard gift box.
