What does the metal chain do?

It runs between the lid and the body and stops the lid falling all the way back when it is opened. The buckles are what hold it shut.

How is a chest different from your storage hampers?

Depth. This is 40 cm tall on a 61 x 40 cm base, so it is close to square in section and holds things in layers. A storage hamper is usually wider than it is deep, which suits laundry more than blankets.

Can two people carry it?

Yes, and at 61 cm long that is the easier way to move it full. The handles are cut into the sides at either end for exactly that.

Is the lining washable?

The lined version uses a removable cotton lining that lifts out and washes. Let it dry fully before it goes back in.
