This distressed white rope handled crate is a wooden box in three sizes, with knotted rope handles through both ends and a white wash finish rubbed back so the grain still shows. The small measures 30 x 20 x 14 cm at 400 g, the medium 35 x 25 x 16 cm at 600 g and the large 40 x 30 x 18 cm at 800 g.

These are the shallow ones. At 14 to 18 cm deep they suit a shelf, a table or a dresser rather than the floor, and the rope handles let you draw one out without gripping the sides. If you want depth, our Deep Vintage Wooden Crate runs 20 to 24 cm in a darker finish.

How does it compare with the Deep Vintage Wooden Crate?

This one is shallower and lighter: 14 to 18 cm deep against 20 to 24 cm, and 400 to 800 g against 700 g to 1.1 kg. The finish is white wash rather than dark oak effect, so it reads far lighter on a shelf.

Do the three sizes nest?

Yes, they step up by 5 cm in length and 2 cm in depth, so the small sits inside the medium and the medium inside the large when they are empty. The set of three is the same three crates.

Are the rope handles fixed?

They pass through drilled holes in each end and are knotted on the outside, so they carry the weight from the wood rather than from the finish.

Is the white finish painted on?

It is a white wash, deliberately distressed so the grain and some of the bare wood show through. Every crate takes it slightly differently, which is the point of the finish.
