Why are the top and base different sizes?

The sides taper. The base is 26 cm and the rim 35 cm, which keeps the tray stable on a surface while giving it a wider opening than its footprint.

Can I put a plant in it?

A potted plant, yes. Keep the pot in its own saucer, because this is unlined willow and will not hold water.

How does it compare with your buff willow tapered tray?

This is the larger and darker of the two: 35 cm across in antique wash, against 24 cm in buff. Buff willow is boiled and stripped to an even gold; antique wash is browner.

Is it food safe?

We would put a cloth or a liner under anything unwrapped. The willow is untreated, so fruit in its skin is fine, but it is not a surface to serve loose food from.
