These heart-shaped slate coasters come as a set of four, each 11 x 11 cm and 6 mm thick, 400 g for the set. Each carries non-slip rubber pads on the underside, so they sit on a table or a desk without marking it and without travelling when a glass is lifted.

Eleven centimetres is wider than a standard coaster, which is usually nearer nine. That extra width takes the base of a mug with room for the drips that run down it, and a wine glass without the foot hanging over the edge. The rubber pads keep the stone off the table surface, which is the part that matters on polished wood.

Will they mark the table?

The rubber pads hold the stone clear of the surface, so the slate itself never touches the wood. Check the pads are all still on before you put them down on anything precious.

What size glass do they take?

At 11 x 11 cm they take a mug, a tumbler or a wine glass with the foot fully on the coaster. A large balloon glass will overhang.

Can I write on them?

Chalk and chalk pens mark natural slate and wipe off with a damp cloth. Plenty of people use them as name settings at a table for that reason.

Do they match your other slate?

They come from the same natural slate as our cheese boards and place mats, so they sit together well. Being riven stone, expect variation in tone rather than an exact match.
