This antique wash wooden handle tray is a shallow willow tray with wooden handles, in two sizes or as a pair. The small is 36 x 27 x 9 cm at 250 g; the large is 42 x 30 x 12 cm. It holds keys, cutlery, condiments or napkins.

Wooden handles are the difference between this and a plain tray: there is something solid to grip rather than a woven handhold, which is what makes a loaded tray easy to carry to the table and back. At 9 and 12 cm deep both sizes are shallow enough to see into at a glance.

Why wooden handles rather than woven ones?

They give a solid grip. On a shallow tray a woven handhold has very little depth to hold, so a wooden handle is the more practical fitting when the tray is being carried rather than left on a shelf.

Which size should I choose?

The small at 36 x 27 x 9 cm suits a table top, a dresser or a drawer of keys and post. The large at 42 x 30 x 12 cm takes condiments, cutlery and napkins together, which is the one for laying a table.

Can it be used to serve food?

With a cloth or a liner under anything unwrapped. The willow is untreated, so it is not a surface to put loose food on directly.

How do I look after it?

Brush it out and keep it dry. The wooden handles will mark if left damp, and willow should not go near standing water.
