This buff wicker storage trunk is a long, low willow trunk with rope handles at each end and double real leather straps, in two sizes and with the option of a removable cotton lining. The 24 inch measures 62 x 40 x 29 cm and weighs 2.9 kg unlined; the 28 inch is 72 x 50 x 34 cm at 3.75 kg. It takes seasonal clothes, spare bedding, blankets, towels or toys.

The proportions are what make this furniture rather than a basket. At 62 or 72 cm long and only 29 to 34 cm tall, it is the right height to sit at the foot of a bed, under a window or at the end of a sofa, where a tall hamper would look wrong and a shallow basket would not hold enough. Rope handles at both ends give a loaded trunk something proper to lift by, which matters once there is a winter duvet inside it. The lining is the part you choose: leave it off for bare willow, or take it in white, navy, grey sage or black, and it lifts out to be washed.

Which size should I choose?

Ten centimetres separate them in length, another ten in width and five in height, which adds up to a good deal more room in the 28 inch. Take the 24 inch at 62 x 40 cm if it has to sit in a defined gap, at the end of a bed in a smaller room or under a window. The 28 inch at 72 x 50 cm is the one for bedding and winter duvets.

Do I need the lining?

No, it is optional. Unlined gives you bare willow inside, which is fine for blankets, towels and bedding. The cotton lining is worth having for clothes, where you would rather nothing caught on the weave, and it comes out for washing.

Is the leather real?

Yes, double real leather straps rather than a coated or printed imitation. They will darken and soften with handling the way any leather does.

Can I sit on it or stand things on it?

We would not sell it as seating. It is a woven willow trunk, so use it for storage, and put a tray on top if you want to stand a lamp or a cup of tea there.
