This green tweed wicker picnic hamper is a light steamed willow hamper with tan real leather straps, fitted out for two people or four. The 2 person measures 40 x 30 x 19 cm; the 4 person is 58 x 38 x 22 cm and weighs 5.9 kg with its contents. Both come with porcelain plates, stainless steel cutlery, a wine opener, salt and pepper shakers, and a fully removable PVC-lined cooler.

The cooler is what separates a fitted hamper from a basket with plates strapped into it. It is a zipped, PVC-lined compartment that lifts out altogether, so cold things travel cold and the hamper goes back to being an ordinary basket once the picnic kit comes out. The 4 person adds four wine glasses, themed napkins and a large picnic blanket on top of the crockery, which makes it the one to take when the picnic is the occasion rather than just lunch. Green tweed lines the interior, and the straps are real tan leather rather than a synthetic stand-in.

Which size should I choose?

The 2 person at 40 x 30 cm is a hamper you can genuinely carry a distance, and it covers a couple or a parent and child. The 4 person at 58 x 38 cm is 5.9 kg loaded before any food goes in, so think about how far it has to travel from the car. It is also the only one that includes glasses and a blanket.

Does the cooler really come out?

Yes, completely. It is a zipped PVC-lined compartment rather than a fixed lining, so you can take it out to pack it, or leave it out and use the hamper as a plain basket.

Is the crockery real porcelain?

Yes, 7 inch porcelain plates rather than melamine, and the cutlery is stainless steel. It is heavier than a plastic set, which is part of why the loaded weight is what it is.

How should I look after it?

Wash the crockery and cutlery as normal and wipe the cooler out. Keep the willow dry, let it air if the grass was damp, and treat the leather straps as you would any leather: they will darken with use.
