This chill beach hamper is an antique wash wicker picnic hamper with a zipped chilled compartment, an integral handle and grey faux leather attachments, measuring 36 x 26 x 36 cm, or 51 cm to the top of the handle, and weighing 2 kg. It carries two bottles and a place setting for two.

This is the tall one of our two beach hampers. At 36 cm deep against 24 cm on the 2 bottle beach hamper, it carries upright rather than flat. Both hold the same setting: plastic plates, acrylic glasses, stainless cutlery and salt and pepper.

How does it compare with your 2 bottle beach hamper?

Height. This is 36 cm deep and 51 cm to the handle; that one is 24 cm deep and 40 cm to the handle. The contents are the same, so the choice is whether you want to carry tall and narrow or low and wide.

Does the chilled compartment come out?

No, it is a zipped section built into the hamper rather than a bag that lifts out. Cold things go in cold and it slows them warming. Wipe it out and leave it unzipped to dry.

Why plastic plates and acrylic glasses?

Because of where it goes. Neither chips on sand or shingle, and both weigh less than porcelain and glass, which matters on a hamper already at 2 kg empty.

What size bottles fit?

Two standard bottles of wine or spirits. At 36 cm deep the hamper is tall enough for them to stand rather than lie among the plates.
