This light steamed waste paper bin is a round willow basket, 28 cm across and 28 cm tall, weighing 300 g. It has no lid and no lining, and it works as a waste bin beside a desk or in a bathroom, or as an open store for rolled towels and magazines.

A waste bin is one of the few things in a room nobody wants to look at. Willow is the usual answer to that, and light steamed is the mid tone of our three finishes, a warm golden brown that sits against painted walls and wood alike. Twenty-eight centimetres each way comes out at roughly 17 litres, a figure we have calculated from the dimensions rather than measured.

How much does it hold?

About 17 litres on our own calculation from the 28 cm measurements, which we have not checked against a filled bin. For comparison, a standard kitchen pedal bin is 30 litres and a desk bin nearer 10.

Will a bin liner fit?

A standard swing bin liner goes in with plenty to fold over the rim. Most people use one, because bare willow is not a surface you want to wipe out.

Is it lined?

No, it is open willow inside and out. That keeps it light at 300 g and keeps the weave visible, which is the point of buying a willow bin rather than a plastic one.

Can it go in a bathroom?

Yes, away from direct splash. Willow copes with a humid room perfectly well; what it does not want is standing water in the base, so use a liner if anything wet goes in.
