This seagrass rectangular tray is a shallow woven storage tray in four sizes or as a set of all four, available unlined or with a white cotton lining. The small measures 32 x 21 cm and just 7 cm deep at 400 g; the extra large is 44 x 34 x 10.5 cm at 900 g. Shallow enough to slide into a drawer or under a shelf, and flat enough to serve from.

Depth is what sets a tray apart from a basket, and at 7 to 10.5 cm these are trays in the proper sense: everything in them stays visible and nothing gets buried. The seagrass is woven onto a plastic-coated metal frame, so the sides stay square and the tray keeps its shape when it is carried by the rim rather than flexing in the middle.

Will it fit in a drawer?

The small at 32 x 21 x 7 cm goes into most standard drawers, and the medium at 36 x 25 x 8 cm into deeper ones. Measure the inside of the drawer rather than the front, since runners and the drawer box take up more room than you expect.

What is seagrass like to handle?

Smoother and softer than willow, with a slight sheen and a green-gold tone that fades towards straw as it ages. It is woven here onto a plastic-coated metal frame, which is what keeps the sides square.

Can I serve food on it?

With the cotton lining in, or with anything plated or wrapped, yes. Seagrass is a natural woven material rather than a wipe-clean surface, so avoid putting wet or greasy food straight onto the weave.

Which size for a dressing table?

The small or medium. At 7 to 8 cm deep they hold perfume, brushes and jewellery where you can see all of it, which a deeper basket does not.
