This rectangular flat tray is woven in a mix of split and full buff willow, measuring 35 x 27 cm with sides only 6 cm high. It weighs 200 g unlined, or 250 g with a removable cotton lining in red and white or blue and white check.

Six centimetres is the whole idea. The sides are just high enough to stop things sliding off and low enough that everything in the tray stays visible and reachable, which is why these end up on dressing tables, desks and shop counters rather than in cupboards. Buff willow is peeled and left its natural pale straw colour, so it sits lighter in a room than our double steamed trays.

How shallow is 6 cm?

About the depth of a cereal bowl. A bottle will not stand up in it, but everything laid in it is visible at a glance, which is the point of a flat tray.

What is buff willow?

Willow that has been boiled with the bark on and then peeled, leaving a pale tan colour rather than the dark brown of a double steamed rod. It is the lightest of our natural finishes.

Does the lining come out?

Yes, the red and white or blue and white checked cotton lining lifts out and washes, which is worth having if the tray is carrying food or cosmetics.

Can I use it for serving food?

Wrapped or dry items, yes. For anything unwrapped, use the lined version or put paper down: bare willow is not a wipe-clean surface.
