This light steamed round tray is woven from full light steamed willow, 24 cm across and 10 cm deep, and it weighs 100 g. There is no lining and no handle. It sits by a door for keys and post, or on a dresser under a candle, and it works as a round wicker display tray.

Light steaming leaves willow a pale golden brown, where double steaming runs longer and takes the rod much darker. The weave here is open and unlined, so anything wet set on it runs through to the surface below.

Can I stand a plant pot in it?

Yes, on a saucer. There is no liner in this tray and the weave is open, so a pot watered in place will drip straight through onto whatever is underneath.

What is light steaming?

The rods are steamed for a shorter run than double steamed willow, with the bark on. The tannins colour the wood as it goes, and a light steam stops at a pale golden brown.

Is 10 cm deep enough to stop things rolling out?

For keys, coins, a phone and a wallet, comfortably. A 10 cm side is taller than most round trays this size, which tend to sit nearer 5 or 6 cm.
