This flat display tray is woven in full double steamed willow with a sloped front: the back stands 12 cm high and the front only 6.5 cm. The large measures 50 x 39 cm and weighs 700 g; the medium is 42 x 35 cm. Both are made to be looked into rather than stored away.

The slope is what makes it a display tray rather than a storage one. A level tray hides its back row behind its front row; dropping the front edge to 6.5 cm tips everything towards the customer, which is why bakers and greengrocers use this shape. The double steamed willow is dark enough that bread, fruit and packaging all read against it.

Why is the front lower than the back?

So the contents tilt towards whoever is looking at them. On a counter that means the front row does not hide the rest, and a customer can see what is in the tray without lifting anything.

Which size for a shop counter?

The large at 50 x 39 cm is the usual choice and takes a proper display of loaves or produce. The medium at 42 x 35 cm suits a narrower counter or a tray that sits alongside a till.

Can it hold food directly?

It is bare willow, so line it with paper or cloth for anything unwrapped. Wrapped loaves, boxed goods and whole fruit sit straight in it.

Will it stack?
