This Nordic water hyacinth storage basket is a small woven basket built on a wooden frame with bare wooden handles, in three sizes or as a set of all three. The small measures 24 x 19 x 16 cm at 600 g, the medium 29 x 22.5 x 18 cm at 700 g, and the large 34 x 26 x 20 cm at 800 g. These are the compact ones, meant for inside cupboards, along shelves and in cube units.

Two things separate this from the rest of our water hyacinth range. The frame is wood rather than metal, and the handles are bare wood left unfinished against the pale weave, which is where the Nordic name comes from. The other is scale. Our standard rectangular storage baskets start at 37 cm long, and these top out at 34, so they go where a full-size basket simply will not: inside a kitchen cupboard, on a narrow bathroom shelf, along the back of a worktop. When they are not in use the three sit inside one another.

How does this differ from your other water hyacinth baskets?

The frame and the size. The rest of the range is woven onto metal and starts at 37 cm long; this one is on a wooden frame with wooden handles and runs 24 to 34 cm. If you want a basket for a shelf or the inside of a cupboard, this is the one. If you want a basket for the floor, take one of the larger ones.

What fits in the small one?

It is 24 x 19 cm and 16 cm deep, which covers cables and chargers, toiletries, cosmetics, spice jars, remotes or a handful of small toys. Folded clothes want the large at the very least.

Are the handles painted?

No, they are bare wood and left that way on purpose. Like any untreated wood the colour may deepen a little over the years.

Do they stack?

The three step up in a way that lets each sit inside the next, which is useful when you only need one of them out.
