This wicker bathroom basket is an antique wash willow basket with a wooden upright that serves as both the handle and a toilet roll holder, measuring 34 x 33 cm on a 29 cm base and standing 26 cm at the rim. It weighs 900 g and holds five or six loo rolls, towels or toiletries.

The upright is the whole design. It runs above the rim to 39 cm, so spare rolls stack on it in view while the basket below takes towels or toiletries, and the same piece is what you lift the basket by. At 34 x 33 cm on a 29 cm base it is wider at the top than the bottom.

How does the roll holder work?

A wooden upright runs from the base of the basket to 39 cm, and the rolls stack down over it. It is the same piece you lift the basket by, so there is one fitting doing two jobs rather than a separate handle.

How many rolls does it take?

Five or six on the upright, depending on how tightly they are wound. The basket around it takes towels, spare toiletries or whatever else you want off the floor.

Will it fit beside a toilet?

The base is 29 cm across and the widest point is 34 cm, so measure the gap. It is wider at the rim than at the base, which means the floor space it needs is smaller than its widest measurement suggests.

How should I look after it?

Keep it out of direct spray and brush it rather than washing it. Bathrooms are humid rather than wet, which willow copes with, but standing water is what damages it.
