This 12 inch wooden box is a lidded pine box with dovetailed corners, two metal hinges, a clasp and integral side handles, measuring 30 x 23 x 11 cm and weighing 400 g. It is the smallest of our three wooden boxes, and holds ornaments, gifts, stationery and keepsakes.

At 11 cm deep this is the shallow one of the three, which makes it a box you can see into rather than dig through. The pine is left unvarnished, so it takes paint, stain or wax. The clasp keeps the lid shut in transit, and the 14 and 16 inch boxes are the same build in deeper sizes.

Which of the three sizes should I choose?

This one is 30 x 23 x 11 cm, the 14 inch is 36 x 27 x 14 cm and the 16 inch is 40 x 31 x 18.5 cm. All three are the same build, so the decision is only about what has to go in. At 11 cm deep this is the one for small things you want to find again.

Is the wood finished?

The plain version is unvarnished pine, so it will take paint, stain or wax if you want it to match something. The white wash version is finished.

Can it be used for a hamper or gift box?

Yes, and it is one of the more common uses. The clasp holds the lid shut in transit, and the box is worth keeping once whatever was inside has gone.

How should I look after it?

Keep it indoors and dry. The hinges and clasp are metal and will mark if they are left damp.
