This vintage planter is a small wooden trough measuring 22.5 x 14 x 12 cm and weighing 300 g, with a heart cut through the end walls at each side to serve as a hand hold. It is the smallest planter we sell, and suits a potted herb or a windowsill caddy for kitchen odds and ends.

The heart cut-outs go right through the wood, so they let light through as well as giving somewhere to grip. Our supplier records the material as wood only, with no liner, so the lining is the one point we cannot yet confirm.

Does it definitely have a plastic lining?

Our supplier records wood alone and no liner, so we cannot confirm what the lining is made from. Treat it as unlined until that is settled, and email us: we will open a box and look before you order.

Will it survive a doorstep or a patio?

We would keep it under cover. Untreated wood left in the rain swells and splits, and we have no coating recorded against this one.

What plant actually fits?

The internal space is a little under 22.5 x 14 cm and 12 cm deep, which takes two 9 cm nursery pots side by side or one 12 cm pot with a gap at each end.

Why are the hand holds heart shaped?

It is the decoration our supplier cuts into this design. They are functional rather than ornamental: the cut-out is what you put your fingers through to lift it.
