Wicker Oval Garden Trug with Hessian Lining
This oval garden trug is a hessian lined wicker basket in full unpeeled willow, in three sizes: 29 x 20 x 11 cm, 35 x 25 x 15 cm and 40 x 30 x 15 cm. They weigh 300 g, 400 g and 500 g, stand 23, 30 and 36 cm to the top of the handle, and take cut flowers, vegetables, weeding and windfall fruit.
The medium and the large share the same 15 cm side and differ only in footprint, 35 x 25 cm against 40 x 30 cm. Hessian lines all three sizes, putting a layer of jute between soil and weave. Our rectangular trug carries the same lining but runs smaller in every size.

FAQs
Which size suits lifting vegetables?
The medium or the large. Both are 15 cm deep, which holds potatoes and onions without them rolling over the side, and the large gives you 40 x 30 cm of floor. The small at 29 x 20 x 11 cm is better suited to herbs and soft fruit.
What is the hessian there for?
It sits between the soil and the weave, so damp earth and root fragments stay off the willow and come out when you lift the trug and shake it. Hessian is jute, woven coarse, and it brushes down dry.
Oval or rectangular, which should I take?
Oval if you want the deeper of the two: this range runs 11 to 15 cm against 10 to 15 cm on the rectangular, and every size is larger. Rectangular if you want straight sides and a smaller trug, down to 26 x 16 cm.
Will it survive being left out in the rain?
It will not thank you for it. The willow is unsealed, so rain goes into the rods and repeated soaking and drying shortens the life of the basket. Knock the soil out and let it dry somewhere airy after use.
