This heritage oval wicker bike basket is a light steamed willow basket with two 25 cm real leather straps, measuring 29 x 25.5 cm across the top, 20 x 15 cm at the base, 24 cm tall, and weighing 400 g. It straps to the front handlebars of an adult bike and carries shopping, a picnic, flowers or a bag.

The oval opening is wider than the D shape most bike baskets use, and that is the practical reason to take this one: a loaf, a bunch of flowers or a full bag of shopping goes in without being forced through the gap. It narrows to a 20 x 15 cm base, so the bulk of what you are carrying sits high, clear of the front wheel. At 400 g it adds almost nothing to the bike, and the straps are real leather rather than synthetic webbing, buckled tight around the bars rather than clipped on.

Will it fit my bike?

It fits the front handlebars of any adult bike, held by the two 25 cm leather straps. For a child's bike, measure the gap between the handlebars and the front wheel first and check it against the dimensions above. We also make a children's bicycle basket if this one is too big.

Can it go on the back of the bike?

No. It is designed for the front only. On a rear rack the straps have nothing to hold it upright against, so it will not stay put.

How does it attach?

Pass the leather straps around the handlebars and buckle them. There is nothing to bolt on and no tools involved, which also means it lifts off in seconds when you want to carry the shopping indoors.

Will it survive the rain?

Willow is not waterproof. It will take a shower and dry out again perfectly well, but do not leave it on the bike out in heavy rain or store it outside through the winter. If it does get soaked, let it dry in the air rather than next to a radiator.
