This heritage bike basket is a light steamed willow basket that straps to the front handlebars on two 25 cm real leather straps. It measures 33 x 28 cm at the rim, tapers to a 23 x 19 cm base, stands 23.5 cm tall and weighs 600 g. It carries a bag, shopping, a coat or a bunch of flowers.

The sides taper, 33 x 28 cm at the rim down to 23 x 19 cm at the base, so the basket narrows towards the bars. Both straps are real leather at 25 cm, long enough to wrap a standard adult handlebar, and they buckle rather than clip on. At 600 g it adds little at the front.

FAQs

Will it fit my handlebars?

The straps are 25 cm each, which wraps the bars on a standard adult bike. Measure round yours before you order if you have thick grips, bar tape or a mounted light in the way. For a child's bike this basket is usually too big, and our child's bike basket is the one to look at.

Front or rear?

Front only. It hangs from the handlebars and sits upright against the head tube, so there is nothing to mount it to a rear rack and nothing holding the contents in if it were tilted.

Can I leave it on the bike in the rain?

You can, but it will not last as long. The willow is unsealed and the straps are real leather, so a basket that is repeatedly soaked and dried will grey off and stiffen. Bringing it in after a wet ride is worth the thirty seconds.

Does it lock or unclip quickly?

Neither. It is buckled on, which takes a moment at each end but means there is no bracket or plastic mount to fail. Most people leave it fitted and lift their bag out instead.
