The gondola is a deep shopper: tall sides sweeping up to a single arched handle, in full buff willow, with the handle carried down into the body of the basket.

Depth is the whole argument for it. Groceries stand on end as you walk instead of tipping over and settling into a layer, and the weight you feel on your arm on the way back is the shopping rather than the basket. It suits a market, a walk to the shops, or a picnic carried out to a field. Unlined willow brushes out easily.

FAQs

How much shopping does it take?

42 x 30 cm across and 40 cm deep, so a good deal more than a standard shopper of the same footprint. The depth is what does it: things go in standing up rather than lying in a layer.

Will the handle take a full load?

The handle is worked into the body of the basket rather than fixed on afterwards, which is how a willow shopper is built to carry weight. Lift it by the handle rather than the rim and it will be fine.

Is there a smaller version?

Yes, we make the same shape in a child's size, which is a genuine small basket rather than a toy.

How should I look after it?

Keep it indoors when it is not in use and let it dry naturally if it gets caught in the rain. Unlined willow is easy to brush out, and a damp cloth deals with marks.
