The Wicker Garden Trug is a long, shallow garden basket in full double-steamed willow, in two sizes: 56 x 29 x 10 cm and 61 x 36 x 13 cm. They weigh 500 g and 700 g, reach 28 cm and 33 cm at the handle, and carry cut flowers, vegetables and hand tools.

Between the two sizes the body gains 5 cm in length, 7 cm in width, 3 cm in depth and 200 g in weight. Double-steamed willow has the bark taken off and is heat treated to an even mid-brown, so these trugs match one another as the unpeeled ones never will. How do the two sizes differ in practice?

The medium gives 56 x 29 cm of floor at 10 cm deep, which suits a cutting round or a row of leeks. The large adds 7 cm of width and 3 cm of depth, which is the difference between carrying one armful and two.

Is this the same trug as the Light Steamed Wicker Garden Trug?

No. That one is a single size at 44 x 32 cm with sides of 6 to 12 cm, in light steamed willow. These are longer, 56 and 61 cm, come in two sizes and a set, and are double steamed, which is a darker finish.

Can I use it for carrying logs?

For kindling and small split logs, yes. At 10 to 13 cm deep it is too shallow for a proper load, and bark is hard on an unlined weave. Our log baskets are built for that job.

How do I get soil out of the weave?

Turn it upside down over a bed and tap it, then go over the inside with a stiff dry brush. There is no lining to hold damp earth, so it clears quickly and dries fast.
