Double Steamed Wicker Storage Basket With White Lining
This double steamed wicker storage basket with white lining is a shallow split willow tray with a removable white cotton lining, in three sizes or as a set of all three. The small measures 30 x 18 x 14 cm at 200 g, the medium 35 x 25 x 15 cm at 300 g, and the large 43 x 32 x 16 cm at 600 g. They are made for bathrooms, dressers and bedside tables.
These are woven in split willow rather than whole rods, which is why the weave is finer and the baskets weigh so little: the largest of the three is only 600 g. The white lining does the other half of the work. Set against the dark double steamed willow it draws a clean edge, and it stops small items catching in the weave, which is the usual complaint about keeping toiletries or jewellery loose in a basket. At 14 to 16 cm they are deep enough to hold a reasonable amount without swallowing what goes in.

Which size should I choose?
The small at 30 x 18 cm is a shelf or windowsill basket for soaps, cotton wool and small bottles. The medium at 35 x 25 cm is the usual choice for a dresser or a bedside. The large at 43 x 32 cm takes folded flannels and hand towels. The set of three covers a bathroom on its own.
Is the lining washable?
Yes, it detaches and goes in the machine. Let it dry fully before it goes back into the basket.
What is split willow?
The rods are split lengthways before weaving rather than being used whole. It gives a finer, flatter weave and a noticeably lighter basket, which is why the small one is only 200 g.
Will they cope in a bathroom?
That is where most of them end up. Keep them out of direct splash from a shower or basin: willow and cotton both handle a humid room perfectly well, but neither wants to be soaked.
