Double Steamed Vertical Weave Wicker Shopper
These are small vertical weave baskets in full double steamed willow, woven onto a wooden frame so the rods run up and down rather than around. The large measures 25 x 20 x 11 cm and stands 26 cm to the top of the arc handle, weighing 200 g. The small is 20 x 16 x 10 cm and 100 g.
Read those figures before you order. The large is about the size of a shoebox lid, so this is a display, gift and hamper-filling basket rather than a weekly shop; our supplier sizes it as a child's shopper. Shops use them for produce displays and window dressing, where the vertical weave gives a more uniform line than standard randing.

FAQs
How big is it really?
Small. The large is 25 x 20 cm at the rim and 11 cm deep, roughly a sheet of A4 in footprint. If you want a basket you can carry a shop in, look at the Deluxe Oval Wicker Shopper at 48 x 43 cm instead.
What is a vertical weave?
The willow rods run from the base up to the rim rather than being woven round the basket horizontally. It needs the wooden frame to hold the shape, and it gives a straighter, more regular line down the sides.
Is it suitable for a child?
Our supplier lists the larger size as a child's shopper, and at 200 g it is light enough for one to carry. There is no lining, so bear in mind the willow ends are exposed at the rim.
Can it be used for food?
It is unlined bare willow, so line it with a cloth or paper for anything unwrapped. Whole produce and packaged goods are fine directly in the basket.
