What is the serrated edge for?

Cutting through root mass when you are lifting or dividing a plant, and for the small jobs that otherwise send you back to the shed: opening a compost bag, cutting twine, trimming a root ball to fit a pot.

How does it compare with the matching fork?

The trowel is 33 cm and 300 g against the fork's 30 cm and 200 g, so it has more weight behind the blade. The fork loosens and lifts; this digs and moves soil.

Will the handle last outdoors?

It is pinewood, so it should come in rather than live in a border. That is what the hanging hoop is for: a hook in a shed or porch keeps it dry between jobs.

Is the blade sharp?

The serrated edge has teeth rather than a knife edge, so it cuts by sawing. It is not a blade you need to be careful of in the way you would with a pruning knife, but it will still take skin if you drag a hand along it.
