Flat-backed and very light, this antique wash star is woven in split willow over a metal frame, with jute string and a metal ring at the top point. Front to back it is shallow enough to sit close against a wall or a door rather than standing proud of it.

The weight is the useful part: the string will hang from a picture hook, a pin, an adhesive strip or a ribbon, so nothing needs drilling and a thin branch takes it. The frame inside holds the five points square through a year in a box and back out again.
