This wicker cooler basket is a full willow carrier with a zipped chilled compartment built into it and a cream fabric lining. It measures 40 x 20.5 x 33 cm, stands 44 cm to the top of the swing handle and weighs 900 g empty. At 33 cm tall it takes a standard wine bottle upright.

Most picnic baskets are bare willow, which holds nothing at temperature. Here the cool compartment is built into the basket rather than dropped in loose, so it does not shift about or eat the space you wanted for the food. Insulation slows warming rather than refrigerating, so chill the contents first and add a freezer block for a longer day out.

How long will it keep things cold?

A few hours rather than all day, and that depends on the weather and on what you put in. Insulation slows heat getting in; it does not chill anything itself. Cool everything beforehand and use a freezer block if you are out past lunch.

Is the willow waterproof?

No. Willow is not waterproof and should not be left out in rain or stood on wet ground. The chilled compartment inside is a sealed liner, so condensation from a cold bottle stays in there rather than soaking the basketwork.

Will a wine bottle stand up in it?

Yes. The basket is 33 cm tall and a standard bottle is around 30 cm, so it stands upright with the handle clear above it.

Does it come with ice packs?

No, the basket only. A standard freezer block lies flat in the base of the chilled compartment.
