This light steamed wicker square laundry basket is a tall willow hamper with a hinged lid on tan faux leather straps and a removable cotton lining, in two sizes and a choice of three lining colours. The small measures 35 x 34 x 50 cm at 1.7 kg; the large is 46 x 46 x 61 cm at 3.8 kg. It takes laundry, towels, bedding, blankets or toys.

We make this shape in two finishes, and choosing between them is really a decision about the room rather than the basket. Light steamed willow is the warm one: a honey gold that settles alongside oak, pine and warm white walls, and picks up the tan of the faux leather straps. The antique wash version of the same hamper is cooler and grey-toned, and belongs in a bathroom done in greys and cool whites. Everything else about the two is the same to the centimetre. Inside, the lining is cotton, it lifts straight out for washing, and it comes in white, a rose print or grey sage.

Light steamed or antique wash?

Purely the colour. Light steamed is a warm honey gold with tan leather trim; antique wash is grey-toned with cream trim. The sizes, the lid, the lining options and the construction are identical, so pick whichever sits better with the floor and the walls in the room it is going in.

Which size should I choose?

The small at 35 x 34 cm and 50 cm tall suits one or two people, or a bathroom with little spare floor. The large at 46 cm square and 61 cm tall is the household basket. The set of two lets lights and darks be separated before washing day rather than during it.

Does the lining come out?

Yes, it is cotton and removable, and it goes in the machine. Put it back only once it is completely dry.

Will the colour change over time?

Light steamed willow will lighten a little in strong direct sunlight over the years, as any natural material does. Out of a south-facing window it holds its colour.
