This round white wash wicker laundry basket is a full willow hamper with a lift-off lid, integral side handles and a removable cotton lining, in two sizes and a choice of three lining colours. The small is 33 cm across and 50 cm tall at 1.1 kg; the large is 46 cm across and 60 cm tall at 2.3 kg. Linings come in classic white, garden rose or grey sage.

White wash is a finish rather than a paint, and that is the difference worth knowing. The wash sits into the weave and lets the grain and the shadows of the willow show through, so the basket reads as woven and white rather than as a white object standing in a corner. The round shape does the rest: nothing catches in a corner, washing goes in and comes out in one movement, and a round hamper sits comfortably beside a bath or on a landing where a square one always looks placed. The lid lifts off and has its own handle on top, and the side handles are worked into the body so nothing protrudes.

Which size should I choose?

Thirteen centimetres separate them across and ten in height, which is a bigger jump than it sounds. The small at 33 cm suits one or two people or a bathroom with little floor to spare. Is the white painted or washed?

Washed. The colour sits in the weave and the willow shows through it, which keeps the texture visible. If you want a solid opaque white instead, our white painted hampers do that.

Does the lid hinge?

No, it lifts off completely and has its own handle on top. That makes it simple to take off one-handed, but it does need somewhere to rest while the basket is open, which is worth thinking about in a small bathroom.

Does the lining come out?

Yes, it lifts out and machine washes. Put it back only once it is completely dry.
