This wooden garden measuring dibber is a pinewood planting tool, 3 cm across at the shaft and 24 cm long, weighing 100 g. It opens holes in soil and compost for seeds, seedlings and bulbs, and the shaft is marked so planting depth can be read off as it goes in.

The markings run at 2 cm intervals, which our supplier does not confirm. Ask us and we will check one. Beyond pinewood the sheet lists no finish, so the timber is bare. Our Pinewood Garden Plant Markers are the companion item, a set of five labels at the same 24 cm length.

How deep can I go with it?

The dibber is 24 cm long overall, with the grip taking up part of that. Most bulbs want 10 to 15 cm, which is comfortably within reach.

Are the 2 cm markings confirmed?

Our supplier records only the pinewood and the measurements, so the rest is not confirmed. Email us and we will count the graduations on one before you order.

How pointed is the tip?

Our supplier does not describe the point. A dibber is shaped to open a hole rather than to cut, so expect a taper rather than a spike. We will look at one if you ask.

Will it work in heavy clay?

Wet clay closes back around a hole whatever you make it with, and we have not tested this dibber in it. On clay soil, work compost through the bed first. Tell us your soil and we will be straight with you about whether this is the tool.
