This tapered rattan round planter is made from kubu grey rattan with a plastic lining, in two sizes: 39 cm across the top on a 24 cm base and 27 cm deep at 1 kg, or 45 cm across on a 28 cm base and 34 cm deep at 1.5 kg. It holds a large indoor plant pot, and doubles as a magazine store.

Neither size has handles, so the weave runs unbroken from base to rim. Both taper sharply: the small loses 15 cm of width between rim and base, keeping the floor footprint well under the spread of the plant above it.

How does this compare with your handled rattan planters?

Same kubu rattan and the same plastic lining. The Rope Handled Rattan Round Planter adds rope grips and runs 45 cm to 55 cm across, and the square version sits flush to a wall. This one is the plainest of the three.

Can I fill it with compost?

The plastic lining will hold soil, but there is no drainage hole, so the water stays where you pour it. Keeping the plant in its own pot inside the basket is the arrangement we would choose.

What size pot does each one take?

The small has a 24 cm base and a 39 cm rim, so a 30 cm pot drops in and clears the sides. The large takes up to about 35 cm at the rim. These are approximate figures taken from the published diameters, not from a fitting test.

Will it stand up to a conservatory?

A dry conservatory is fine. Strong direct sun will lighten the grey over time, and rattan is unsealed, so anywhere that gets rain or condensation running down the walls is not suitable.
