This country trug is a wicker garden trug woven from full unpeeled, double steamed willow, sold small, large or as a set of both. The small is 35 x 25 cm and 400 g, the large 40 x 30 cm and 500 g, with handles at 28 and 33 cm. They carry cut flowers, vegetables in from the garden or kindling.

Both sizes sit low at the middle and rise at the ends, which is the trug shape: 8 to 13 cm on the small, 10 to 15 cm on the large. The bark is left on the willow, so the colour varies from trug to trug. The pair together weigh 900 g.

Why are the sides lower in the middle than at the ends?

So long stems lie over the low point without snapping while the higher ends still hold things in. It is the traditional trug profile, and both sizes have it.

Is it all right to leave out on the plot?

For an afternoon of cutting, yes. Willow is unsealed and will weather if it lives outside, so bring it into a shed or a porch when you have finished.

What is the best way to get soil off?

Let it dry first, then turn the trug over and brush it out with a stiff dry brush. Do not soak it or put it under a tap.
