This rectangular garden trug is a hessian lined wicker basket in full unpeeled willow, in three sizes: 26 x 16 x 10 cm, 32 x 23 x 12 cm and 38 x 27 x 15 cm. They weigh 250 g, 350 g and 500 g, reach 23, 27 and 33 cm at the handle, and suit herb picking and small harvests.

Every size here is smaller than its opposite number in our oval trug: 26 x 16 cm against 29 x 20 cm on the small, and 38 x 27 cm against 40 x 30 cm on the large. At 250 g the small is the lightest trug we sell, and the corners are square where the oval version curves.

How small is the small one, really?

26 x 16 cm on the base and 10 cm deep, at 250 g. It holds a good handful of cut herbs, a punnet of raspberries or a morning’s eggs, and it sits on a windowsill without dominating it.

Is the hessian stitched in?

It is fitted into the basket rather than woven through the willow, and it is the same jute cloth across all three sizes. If you need to know whether it lifts clear for washing, ask us and we will check one here before you order.

Should I buy this or the oval trug?

This one if you want the smaller of the two ranges or you want square corners that sit flush on a potting bench. The oval if you want more room: every size in that range is bigger, and the large gives 40 x 30 cm against 38 x 27 cm here.

Can I rinse the soil out under a tap?

Brush it out dry instead. The willow is unsealed and the hessian holds water, so a rinse leaves both damp for a long time. A stiff brush over the lining clears most of what a day in the garden puts in it.
