This oval shopping basket is woven from full light steamed willow, with no lid. The swing handle is mounted on galvanised metal hoops covered in willow, so no metal is left showing, and it drops flat to either side when the basket is put down. There are two sizes.

Both are shallow rather than deep. The small size is scaled as a child's basket, so the large is the one for an adult's shopping.

What are the handle hoops made of?

Galvanised metal with a covering over it. They form the pivot the handle turns on, at the two points that take the most rubbing.

Is the small size meant for children?

The small size is scaled as a child's basket. It is worth checking the sizing table before you choose, because it is noticeably smaller than the large.

Why do you publish a base measurement for these?

Because the sides flare. The small is 20 x 12 cm at the top and 20 x 11 cm at the base; the large is 37 x 26 cm at the top and 30 x 20 cm at the base. The base is the figure to measure against a shelf.

Can they be used outdoors on a market stall?

Under cover, yes. Willow is unsealed, so rain and a wet trestle will mark it. Bring them in at the end of the day and let them dry.
