This vintage slatted wooden crate is a slatted wooden box in three sizes, with or without a lid, sold singly or as a set of all three. Without a lid the small measures 30 x 20 x 13.5 cm at 400 g, the medium 35 x 25 x 17 cm at 500 g, and the large 40 x 30 x 19.5 cm at 800 g. A lid adds a centimetre of height and between 100 g and 400 g.
Choosing the lid separately is the useful part. An open crate is for the things you reach into daily, on a shelf or under a console table; a lidded one closes, stacks squarely and keeps the dust off, which is what you want if it is going into a loft or a garage. The three sizes step up so each sits inside the next, and the set stores as one. Slatted sides rather than solid panels keep the weight down, which is why even the large is only 800 g, and the vintage finish is deliberately weathered rather than new, so knocks blend in instead of standing out.

FAQs
Which size should I choose?
Five centimetres separate them in length and around three in depth. The small at 30 x 20 cm is a shelf crate. The medium is the general-purpose one. The large at 40 x 30 cm takes toys, tools or a run of records. The set of three suits a graded row along a shelf, or one crate inside another when they are not all in use.
Do I need the lid?
Only if the crate is going somewhere dusty or needs to stack. The lid is detached rather than hinged, so it lifts straight off, and it adds a centimetre to the overall height.
Do they stack?
Lidded, yes, because the lid gives a flat top to build on. Without lids the three nest inside each other instead, which is the better way to store them empty.
Can they be used outdoors?
They will take a covered porch or a dry outbuilding, but the wood is not treated for weather. Left out in the rain it will swell and the finish will lift, so keep them under cover.
