This flat rectangular tray mixes split and full buff willow in one weave. Buff willow is boiled with the bark on and then peeled, which leaves it a pale straw colour. It is sold unlined, or with a removable cotton lining in red and white check or in blue.

The sides are low on purpose, high enough to stop things sliding off and low enough that everything stays in sight. Dressing tables, desks and shop counters are where these end up rather than cupboards. A lining lifts out and washes, worth having if the tray carries food or cosmetics.

What is buff willow?

Does the lining come out?

Can I use it for serving food?

Wrapped or dry items, yes. For anything unwrapped, use the lined version or put paper down: bare willow is not a wipe-clean surface.
