Lining changes what it is good for rather than how it looks. The cotton lifts out for the machine and stops small items pushing through the weave, which makes it the one for laundry. Unlined leaves the willow open to the air, which suits toys, books and blankets.

Is the lined version a different size?

No. Both are 52 x 40 x 25 cm and only the weight changes, 1.5 kg against 1.7 kg. The extra 200 g is the cotton lining.

What is an antique wash finish?

A wash applied over the willow that knocks back the yellow of the raw willow and leaves a greyed, weathered tone. It is a surface finish, so the grain and the weave still read through it.

Does the lining come out?

It does, and it is machine washable. That is the practical argument for the lined version if the basket is going to hold laundry rather than books.

Will it hold a full wash load?

At 52 x 40 cm and 25 cm deep it is wide rather than deep, so it swallows a load laid in but will not take a mounded one. If you want depth for a household's washing, our corner and round laundry hampers are the taller option.
