This rectangular log basket is built for depth: the sides stand about as high as the basket is long, over a base that tapers in tighter still. The willow has a full antique wash finish, grey in tone rather than dyed, and hessian lines the inside. A rope handle is stitched through each end. Small, large, or both as a set of two.

Logs stack on end instead of lying flat, so a narrow patch of floor carries more fuel. It is the basket for a chimney breast alcove, so measure headroom as well as width.

Will it fit in an alcove?

That is what it is designed for. The small needs 49 x 30 cm of floor and 48 cm of height, the large 56 x 37 cm and 50 cm. Measure height as well as width, because these are taller than most log baskets and a low shelf or mantel overhang will catch.

Small or large?

The small suits a wood burner and a tight alcove. The large is 7 cm longer and 7 cm wider, better for an open fire or for anyone who would rather fill it once a week than every day. The set of two pairs them either side of a hearth.

Is the willow actually grey?

It is willow with an antique wash finish, a soft weathered grey rather than a dye or a stain. It will pale a little further as the willow ages.

Will the handles cope when it is full?

Yes. The rope passes through each end and is worked into the weave, so it pulls against the body of the basket rather than against a separate fixing. Loaded with logs these get heavy, so use both handles.
