This navy blue waterproof picnic blanket measures 145 x 80 cm and weighs 800 g, made from 600D polyester with a carry handle. It is the compact one in our range, sized for one or two people rather than a group.

Eighty centimetres across is what makes it different. Most picnic blankets are built for a crowd, which makes them awkward to carry and more than you need for two people on a patch of grass by the car; this one is long enough to stretch out on and narrow enough to roll tight and carry in one hand. The 600D polyester is a heavier weave than a standard blanket, which is the reason it weighs 800 g despite being the smallest we sell, and it wipes clean rather than needing a wash every time it comes home.

How many people does it fit?

One lying down, or two sitting side by side. At 80 cm across it is not a family blanket, so if you are feeding four take our Nature picnic blanket at 142 x 180 cm instead.

How waterproof is it?

It is made to keep ground damp off rather than to work as a groundsheet. On wet grass it will keep you dry for a sitting, but it is not for standing water.

Why is it heavier than the larger blankets?

The fabric. 600D polyester is a denser, tougher weave than a lightweight blanket, so you get 800 g in the smallest size. That is the trade for something that stands up to being thrown in a boot week after week.

Can I wash it?

Wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry fully before rolling it up. That handles grass, crumbs and the usual damage.
