This gingham picnic blanket measures 280 x 140 cm and weighs 900 g, in cotton and polyester with a waterproof EVA foam backing. It comes in red and white or blue and white gingham, and it is the largest picnic blanket we make.

Two hundred and eighty centimetres is the figure that sets it apart. Our next largest blanket is 180 cm long, so this is more than half as long again, and it takes a group of six or eight sitting round the edges with the food in the middle rather than four people and a hamper. The gingham does the other half of the job. A picnic blanket is one of the few things at a picnic that gets photographed, and a red or blue check reads as a picnic in a way a plain rug simply does not. The EVA foam backing keeps ground damp out and wipes down, so it does not need washing every time it comes home.

How many people does it take?

Six to eight sitting round the edges with room in the middle for the food. At 280 cm long it is a group blanket rather than a couple's one.

How does it compare with your other picnic blankets?

It is considerably bigger. The Nature blanket is 142 x 180 cm and the navy one 145 x 80 cm. For two people one of those is easier to carry and quicker to pack; for a group, this is the one.

How waterproof is it?

The EVA foam backing keeps ground damp off. It is a picnic blanket rather than a groundsheet, so it will keep a group dry on damp grass but is not meant for standing water.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the backing with a damp cloth and shake the top out. Let it dry completely before folding it away, because a blanket of this size put away damp takes a long while to recover.
