Rope handles loop through each side of this round kubu grey rattan basket, which carries a plastic liner inside. The handles pass through the weave rather than being worked into the rim, so they pull against the body. Medium and large, with the pair also listed.

These are floor baskets. A nursery pot drops inside and sits below the rim, so a big houseplant looks planted rather than potted, and the liner keeps watering drips off the floor. Empty of plants, the same basket holds throws, toys or logs. Take the large for anything that has outgrown its pot.

Can I plant straight into it?

No. Keep the plant in its own pot and stand that inside. The liner is there to catch drips when you water, not to hold soil or sit in standing water.

Which size do I need?

Measure the pot your plant is currently in and compare it with the 45 cm and 55 cm across the top, allowing a couple of centimetres so it lifts in and out easily. Depth matters too: at 39 and 45 cm, a tall nursery pot will sit below the rim rather than showing above it.

Can it go outside?

On a covered porch or a conservatory, yes. Rattan is not weatherproof, so a planter left out in the rain will not last, and standing water underneath it will do the base no good at all.

Does it have to hold a plant?

No. A 55 cm round basket with rope handles works just as well for throws in a living room, toys in a corner, or logs beside a stove. The liner simply stops anything working through the weave.
