Engineered bamboo makes up this lidded storage box, the corners held by biscuit joints so nothing shows outside, two metal hinges, two clasps and a brown faux leather handle mounted on the front. It comes small or large.

Bamboo is dense, so either size has real weight to it and feels like an object rather than packaging. Two clasps hold the lid down and the front handle means a full box is carried like a case. The small is the shallower and suits documents, photographs and flat keepsakes; the large takes bulkier things.

Which size should I choose?

The small at 33 x 23 cm and only 12 cm deep suits documents, photographs and flat keepsakes. The large at 40 x 30 cm and 19 cm deep takes bulkier things, and at 2.6 kg empty it is the one that stays where you put it.

Why is it so much heavier than your wooden boxes?

The material. Engineered bamboo is considerably denser than the pine and oak effect wood we use elsewhere, so a box of the same dimensions weighs more. If you want something light to carry about, one of the wooden boxes is the better choice.

What are biscuit joints?

A method of joining where a small oval of compressed wood is glued into slots cut in both pieces. It makes a stronger corner than pinning and leaves nothing visible on the outside of the box.

Does it lock?

No. Two clasps hold the lid firmly closed, which is plenty for transport, but there is no lock or key.
