This small seagrass shopper is a compact woven shopping basket made from seagrass over a full buff willow frame, with a lining fitted inside. It is 19 x 15.5 x 9 cm, stands 20 cm to the handle and weighs 200 g, holding keys and post, herbs, or a small market shop.

Seagrass and willow both go into this basket, which nothing else in our shopper range does: buff willow makes the frame and handle, seagrass the woven body. It is also our only small shopper to come lined as standard, and at 200 g it weighs twice what the willow minis beside it do.

FAQs

What is seagrass?

A grass that grows in shallow coastal water, dried and then twisted and woven much as willow is. It weaves up smoother and softer to the touch than willow rods, and it holds a paler, greener colour.

Does the lining lift out?

Our supplier sheet records a lining fitted inside but does not say whether it is stitched or loose, and we would rather not guess on a basket this small. Ask us and we will check one on the shelf here before you order.

Why is it heavier than your willow shoppers?

Two materials and a lining rather than one. It comes in at 200 g against 100 g for the Mini Oval Shopper and 75 g for the Small White Shopper, on a slightly smaller footprint than either.

Is it suitable for carrying loose food?

We would keep food in its own bag or wrapping inside the basket. The lining makes it easy to shake crumbs out, but it is not a food-contact product and the seagrass weave holds on to fine debris.
