The Mini Double Steamed Shopper is a small oval wicker shopping basket in full double-steamed willow. It is 21 x 17 x 8 cm, stands 19 cm to the handle, weighs 100 g, and takes a few vegetables, a bunch of flowers or a child’s Easter hunt.

Body and handle come from the same double-steamed rods, so one colour carries the whole way round with no second tone anywhere on it. Our Mini Shopper uses the same willow on the body but carries a split willow handle.

Is the handle a different willow from the body?

No. Every rod in this one is full double-steamed willow, handle included, so the colour is uniform. If you want the two-tone look, the Mini Shopper has a split willow handle against a double-steamed body.

What does steaming the willow twice do to it?

It is a heat treatment applied to the rods before they are woven, and it brings the willow to an even warm brown. The colour goes through the rod rather than sitting on the surface as a paint or a wash would.

Will it hold a proper shop?

Not a weekly one. At 21 x 17 cm and 8 cm deep it suits a few loose vegetables, a bunch of flowers or a handful of eggs. For a market shop, look at the Swing Handle Shopper, which starts at 33 x 28 x 18 cm.
